Large Country Property, Ideal for Horses, With Various Rental Possibilities in Bensafrim, Algarve

Large Country Property, Ideal for Horses, With Various Rental Possibilities for sale in Bensafrim, Algarve

This traditional country home has lots of character and has various different ways that it can be sub-divided to create rental units if required. Set on almost 4.5 hectares (almost 11 acres) of good fertile land that is relatively flat, this property lends itself to keeping animals, such as horses, or to general farming activities. Approximately half the land is divided into flat, usable grazing areas, whilst the other half remains a natural wilderness that would require clearing to make it usable. There are several small outbuildings that could easily be converted into stables.

The property is reached via a short dirt track that's in good condition and there are ample paved and cobbled areas for parking. The main farmhouse is currently split into two apartments on 2 floors, with the upstairs entrance to the rear of the house and the downstairs entrance at the front. There is an internal staircase linking the 2 floors but this is currently sealed off to give 2 independent apartments. The ground floor comprises a wide entrance hall, opening to a space that is perfect as a little office, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, a living room with log-burner and a large kitchen/sitting room with a big walk-in pantry under the stairs. From the rear kitchen door there's a sheltered terrace, perfect for outdoor dining.

The external stairs lead to the first floor apartment that comprises a large kitchen/dining room, a living room plus a small office space, 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. The living room and one of the bedrooms have patio doors to the front balcony with views over the land and countryside beyond.

Adjoining the main farmhouse is the single storey barn which has been converted into further accommodation, with a lovely covered terrace running along the front. The barn is split into 2 sections. To the left is a large room with a log-burner and high wooden ceilings, which comprises a living room with kitchen along one wall and wooden steps leading up to a large mezzanine sleeping area under the rafters. Coming out of this section and into the next door on the right brings us into an office area with a large bedroom and dressing area to the rear (with a mezzanine section running above both divisions) plus a shower room. There is a doorway into a second large bedroom, with an en-suite shower room, which was originally part of the main farmhouse (on the ground floor) and could easily be incorporated back into the main part of the house if required.

Outside there is an original bread oven with an adjacent log-store and, in front of the properties, is a beautiful pergola covered in creepers creating a lovely shady spot. There's a brick barbecue here, making it the perfect place to entertain. A majestic mature palm tree also shades the old threshing circle, which can be used as another outdoor dining or entertaining area (there's a handy outside toilet too!). There's a small outbuilding used for storage and beyond that, a path leads to the cactus garden and down to the vegetable garden, with the fields beyond. The property also benefits from its own borehole which supplies the house with water and can be used to irrigate the land. There's a very large water tank near to the house, which although it's for irrigation, can also be used to cool off in during the hot summer months. There are numerous fruit trees including orange, lemon, grapefruit, almond and olive. The property also benefits from solar panels for hot water and the whole house has recently been re-wired.

This country home offers endless possibilities. Despite being in the countryside, it is not isolated with neighbours close by. It's also less than 10 minutes from the vibrant, historic town of Lagos, with its beautiful beaches and over 200 restaurants! The village of Bensafrim is only 5 minutes drive away and offers a small municipal market and several cafes and restaurants.

Whether you are looking for a large equestrian property or somewhere that can earn you a reasonable amount in income, this property is a must-see.
